Quarterly Market Update Q3
The third quarter reinforced an important investment lesson: markets often climb a wall of worry. Despite headlines dominated by geopolitical conflict, tariff and trade discussions, and uncertainty surrounding monetary policy, equity markets continued to advance. The S&P 500 rose 2.3% during the quarter, while international stocks also posted gains as global economic growth and corporate earnings proved more resilient than anticipated. Within equities, leadership remained concentrated in areas tied to AI, technology infrastructure, and companies benefiting from continued capital spending.
Fixed income markets were more mixed. While bonds continued to provide income and diversification benefits, Treasury yields rising to 10-year highs along with persistent inflation concerns created headwinds for longer-duration securities. Shorter-term, higher-quality bonds generally held up better than longer-maturity issues, as investors adjusted expectations for the pace of future interest rate cuts.
As we enter the final quarter of the year, our outlook remains focused on fundamentals rather than headlines. Economic growth has slowed but remains positive, corporate earnings continue to support equity valuations, and bond yields remain attractive relative to recent history. While periods of market volatility are inevitable, we believe diversified portfolios remain well-positioned for long-term investors who stay focused on their financial goals rather than short-term market noise.
